Elegy for a Potato Bug

Addy was so proud of herself, she caught a potato bug and put it in a jar with dirt and leaves. She named it Annie Mariah. Addy took great care of her pet potato bug. She made sure she had leaves to eat and lots of play time. The next afternoon, Addy came running to me and crying. She said she was trying to be careful with Annie and open her up, but she broke. After some hugs and kisses and stifled laughter, Addy told me that she put Annie in the fountain. I guess burial at sea is the way to go for a potato bug. Poor Annie Mariah. May she rest in peace.

Naomi LOVES potato bugs too. She names every one she saw this summer "Giselle," and she'd carry them around and "find" children. Totally laughed about the "burial at sea" comment!
